Recently there have been advances in the study of non-photo realistic rendering 3D computer graphics. These have allowed the rendering of charcoal prints, watercolors, pen drawings and other art forms in computer graphics.
We are planning the development of software renderers that allow the creation of painting-like effects for computer graphics image makers and the design world. The design brief for this software includes the ability to create both still pictures and animation using painting-like and non-photo realistic effects.
For pictures to contain the most information-carrying ability it does not follow that they need to be as realistic as possible. It's often easier to grasp an image when the key features of an object have been accentuated or enlarged. However in order to produce such images we need the human touch of painters or designers.
With the technology to produce such images without having to go through this manual stage images can be produced much quicker and more cheaply. Further, with the automation of such processes the creation of animation becomes just one simple step further. The use of this software allows the development and creation of virtual realities that until now have been unrealisable.
